Both ATYCLB and HTDAAB were quality and yes Vertigo is a fine song,I think as hardcore fans we get sick coz we hear it so much.
For me City of Blinding Lights,Electrical Storm, Magnificent
Since the title of the thread is the last great "song" post ATYCLB, I'll pick one: The Little Things That Give You Away. Still can't believe they didn't play it on E & I.
Runners up: COBL, Moment of Surrender, Every Breaking Wave
If a great U2 song is one that makes me stop and take notice then it has be The Little Things, closely followed by Every Breaking Wave (Acoustic). I think Vertigo deserves some love, it may have reached saturation point but it’s still a good song for injecting some energy into a gig and a playing around with different snippets.
Lots of them, and a few not on this list are still very good songs, like The Showman, which obviously is no groundbreaker, but it sounds nothing like U2 have done before, which is a positive and a negative at the same time. The list?
All of these are great songs, and perhaps some are a bread crumb away from being great, but what the hell, all of these I have listened to an awful lot over the years:
Electrical Storm (William Orbit mix)
Mercy demo
Vertigo
Original Of The Species
Miracle Drug
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
Crumbs from Your Table
City of Blinding Lights
Yahweh
Breathe
No line on the horizon
Magnificent
Being Born(hold the boring useless Fez intro)
The Liittle Things That Give You Away
Every Breaking Wave(acoustic version no Teddy Bear Tedder)
Lights Of Home
Red Flag Day
