1. I have the feeling Songs of Surrender will be a 6/10 and then they'll knock it out of the park with the new album and then retire

More exciting to me than a compilation of old remixes which is what Madonna is doing this year, or even another greatest hits like U218 Singles or the Best Ofs. (Which the label probably would have been more interested in…easier to sell the hits everyone knows than a bunch of experimental takes on the originals.)

40 songs. There’s sure to be a few stinkers and a few gems. I’ll take a listen. They worked on this while they were separated and couldn’t get into a studio together and then finished it off when they could get back together. That’s a different way of working which interests me as well. And I think it’s kind of cool they are supporting Bono and his autobiography in this way, putting together an album of songs to go with it.

If a new album was another five years off I’m not sure if I’d be happy with this one, but sounds like they will be releasing that one early next year. Maybe going back and diving into these old songs will get their heads in a different place…one that reminds them of some of the things we all love about the older stuff.

Thank you U2Wanderer1 and Beerok for taking me off the proverbial ledge here....

Wise words, hard agree. That's my take right now too.
  4. I understand the frustration of some but there is at least a few interesting things on the horizon. It’s always nice to have something to look forward to…. Although it is also nice for those things to eventually arrive (subscription gift).

Uhh I would much refer this ! It was an interesting daring and creative period for the band!

Worrying , cohesiveness might be lacking.

Hasn't Bono ( to a lesser degree as is Adam and Larry ) always seem to be away from the studio and phoning it in especially at the embryonic stage of an new album?

Wallets would be opened? For most artists I have researched, the cover album usually is the lowest selling album in their catalog. For rehash/reinvent albums it is roughly the same. For every Rod Stewart who milked this concept into sales, you have a multiple Stings who rehash their own material into albums with non-existent sales. Bon Jovi did this and was perhaps the worst one that I own. Terrible, and it seriously undersold. Now, with sales non-existent, it will be difficult to judge, but prospects for success are not encouraging.
  11. Just popping by the forums for my yearly visit to say that I for one am interested in hearing their new takes on the old songs. Will they be better than the originals? Almost certainly not. The originals will still exist though so that’s okay.

Edit: Oh yeah also everyone on here seems way grumpier than the were back when I frequented in 2015-2018.
  12. So which songs will definitely be on this album? An announcement can't be far away can it?
