1. I drove past the stadium today and the parking lot now has temporary chain link fences set up to enclose the trucks that will bring the stage. I'll post here as I see more developments.
  2. Continuing the tradition of individual topics for each stop of the tour, this topic is now the official topic for all discussion regarding U2's opening show of the third leg, on June 3, 2010 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Changed the title of your topic, by the way....
  4. What a dog of a stadium
  5. Looked like they miscalculated their budget in the middle of construction
  6. hhaahahahahahahahaha!!!

Yeah, it's not te Camp Nou or the Soldier Field, but hey, we the spanish say "if the product's good, I don't mind the envelope"... which, in this case, translates as: if the music's good, I don't mind how ugly is the stadium!!

(yes, I'm still a born optimistic afterall )

Great line Sergio, and thanks to the OP who'll keep us updated- great to have a man on the inside
  8. I can't believe we're this close to starting up again! The mere fact that this topic is here excites me. Only 7 weeks til Toronto!

  9. yeah i love this period when things start building up - just hope it doesn't end in the usual disappointment!

can't wait til they're in the stadium soundchecking mofo............
  10. Don't hate on the stadium guys. Keep in mind this is a college campus stadium (not a professional sports stadium), so the budget is not as high. Further, the south endzone is open as an aesthetic feature to allow a great view of the enormous mountains against which the stadium sits (the picture above was taken from the wrong angle to show the mountains). Here is a better view of the mountains from my seats at the football (american, of course) game (my amature camera doesn't properly capture the grandeur of the mountains):

And a professional photo to show the mountain backdrop - notice the stadium in the lower right quadrant of the photo:

Ok, ENOUGH ABOUT THE STADIUM ITSELF

Stadium critiques aside, I drove past the stadium today again and am happy to report the first truck with equipment has showed up:

This truck brought some big cement blocks .... looks like they will act as some sort of anchor. I talked to the driver of the truck and he said the setup is scheduled to begin tomorrow (Monday).

I'm starting a new job tomorrow, but I'll try to swing by the stadium and take some more pictures after work ... about 6 pm local time, and post them by about 7 pm local time. If I can get out of work early, I'll try to post sooner to help out all the fans in earlier time zones.
  11. More importantly, will the punters be able to sink a few beers before/during/after the gig?

  12. I don't know who/what "punters" are. About 30% of college athletic programs in the States prohibit alcohol at athletic events. Utah is a very conservative State and the state legislature has banned alcohol at Rice Eccles Stadium .... however, most people know how to sneak some in
