Have you listened to any music produced in the last century? If so, chances are you have heard the results of blatant sampling done without credit. You know the entire hip hop genre wouldn't even exist without sampling? If you study the history of hip hop, you'll realize the sounds and rhythms of every single hip hop/rap song can be traced to like three original tracks. Every artist this day knows there is no such thing as 100% originality. It's all about reinvention and reapplication.
He clearly is not talking about Hip Hop or Rap.

His comment demands examples of Foo Fighters, RHCP, Radiohead, etcetera, doing this sampling thing.
I don't have too much problem with it, but I agree to some extent with his point, and saying that everyone in hip hop does it, not only is not reassuring, but au contraire, it worries more, because... I don't want U2 to do anything like hip hop.

I want U2 to do whatever excites them. You could get technical and say they "sold out" when they started using loops and sequencing and stuff.

You might not like a genre but if a band you like explores one you might like the songs. As a general rule I hate country and I'm not too big on folk but when Beyonce had a country song on Lemonade I liked it and when Lady Gaga went folk I followed.

yeah, I get the genre-exploring point, but that's a different debate.

I understand it's not a big deal since in one case they gave credit to the creator and in the other it came from their producer, and I understand that both things, specially the second is very common but obviously I would've preferred it 100% if they had written both riffs.

The only reason why I joined the discussion again, is because I didn't fully agree with the argument used to defend the song. And also because while I can get over it, I do understand why it bothers to others.
  5. A petition should be sent to U2 demanding that they abandon all notions of evolution or innovation. Pure rock only. Three chords and the truth damn it! And outlaw all snippets too, they're just bloody samples in disguise.

So if they stop sampling they aren't innovative. That's ironic
  7. Irony? no we can leave that off the list of demands. That was buried some place with that feckin giant lemon.

Why? Because fans have the right to force the band to make the music they want to hear? Wtf. Not a chance. You're not in the band.
  10. Let me tell you, any artist that has the audacity to go out and say 100% of their work is 100% original is full of shit.

If you want pure rock,go back to 1983. After that they quit pure rock forever. You can't tell them what to do...

This is by far the most ridiculous statement I have heard in 2017.
