I don't think the sound is U2esque, far from it. It's more of a mix between The Killers, The Lighting Seeds, Joy Division, Bloc Party and The Cure. Lots of guitars but also lots of synths and very few of the distinctive delay-heavy, few-notes guitar style.

Even the likeness of Eli's voice to his dad's (which was VERY apparent in the first singles from a few years back) is gone to my ears. He's possibly fought against it and/or his voice has changed - something quite normal in the late teens or early 20s. He has much less vocal power than his dad.

In general I think they truly want to break up with their U2-connection asap, but I'm afraid they never will because media will still regard them as "Bono's son's band" no matter how much time goes by
I agree - but I still find the rockier tunes on Inhaler's album a bit U2-sounding - though fresher, catchier, and more modern. Early 80's-SOI-kind-of-U2. But yes, on top of everything-else-you-say-sounding. Perhaps they're just Inhaler-sounding...

Of course Bono could also be out of tune in the early 80's. But, I find, he's - and he's been since the early 80's - in general much more in tune live and - most importantly - I think his voice as a 20 yo (and later) has more 'meat' to it.

Still, I quite like Eli's voice and I'm really fond of their album. I wish I knew more bands like that.
  2. lol wtf is that Eli must have been cringing all throughout

Agree with you, listening to the album and the live from somewhere session do not remind me u2 sound (except for my honest face intro reminding me out of control song).I also hear same réferences , adding radiohead influence. Overall I'm really surprised by the great songs in this first album like 'my King will be kind' or "when it breaks ', very solid material.
I bought 2 tickets to see them next spring in Paris

  5. close your eyes and at 3.32 you'd swear it's Bono singing
  6. fuck me his voice is awful - so off key

  7. Saw Inhaler last night in Kentish town, have to say they were spot on!
